Motorist Killed by Drunk Driver in West Houston

On May 28, 2011, Houston investigators say a 22 year-old man may be charged with intoxicated manslaughter after running a red light and striking another vehicle at Harwin and Beltway 8 in far west Houston.  According to reports, the man was traveling southbound on Beltway 8 in silver Volkswagen Golf when he ran the red light at Harwin.  Witnesses say the Golf then collided with a black Ford Mustang headed eastbound.  Houston authorities reported the driver of the black Mustang died at the scene.  Witnesses say officers arrested the 22 year-old driver of the Golf after he tried to run away on foot.

Drunk Driver Causes Death in South Houston Car Wreck

On May 22, 2011, city of South Houston investigators say a nun was killed in a collision with an intoxicated driver.  Reportedly, the accident took place at the intersection of Main and Minnesota when a truck that ran a stop sign crashed into a Honda Civic driven by the nun.  Sources say the truck driver admitted to running the stop sign because he was still drunk from a night out with friends. 

Reportedly, the nun was taken to hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Houston Man Pushing Truck Hit by Drunk Driver

On May 23, 2011, Houston police say a man was pushing his car on Chimney Rock Road near the Westpark Tollway when he was hit by a SUV and pinned between two vehicles.  Reportedly, the vehicle which struck the man was a Toyota 4Runner.  Witnesses say the man was pushing his truck which had run out of gas.  Witnesses also say the 4Runner was traveling about 60 miles per hour when it stuck the man.  Reportedly, the victim was taken to the hospital and his condition has not been released. 

Houston authorities say the driver of the 4Runner was charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to stop and render aid.

Houston Driver Charged With Death of Passenger After Car Wreck

On April 24, 2011, Harris County authorities say a driver was charged with the death of his passenger after a wreck near Houston at the 6900 block of East Sam Houston Parkway.  Reportedly, the driver was speeding and lost control when he tried to exit and crashed into a retaining wall.  Authorities say the passenger was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.  Harris County authorities say the man was charged with intoxicated manslaughter.

Intoxicated Driver Injures Houston Woman After Gulf Freeway Crash

On April 21, 2011, Houston police say a man was arrested after suspected intoxication when he critically injured a woman in a collision on the Gulf Freeway at Joplin.  Reportedly, the man was in a yellow pickup truck and travelling at a high rate of speed when he slammed into the back of the Toyota Rav 4 with two women inside.  Investigators say the collision caused the driver to lose control of her car and slam into and then fly over the outside retaining wall, causing the car to flip several times.  Houston police say the woman riding as a passenger was ejected from the car and was transported to the hospital in critical condition.  Sources say the woman who was driving sustained only minor injuries.  Reportedly, the man driving the pickup was not injured.

Houston Area Passenger Dies after Rollover Wreck

On April 18, 2009, sources say a Houston area driver has been charged with intoxicated manslaughter following a rollover collision that killed his passenger.  Harris County authorities said the passenger was trapped underneath the car after it flipped over on the 17800 block of the North Freeway.  Reportedly, the passenger died at the scene.

Motorcyclist Killed by Drunk Driver Near Houston

On April 10, 2011, Harris County authorities say a 39 year old man died in a motorcycle accident early in the morning. Reportedly, the man was riding his motorcycle westbound on the 400 block of Rankin Road when a Chevrolet Silverado traveling eastbound on Rankin Road made a left turn in front of him. Investigators say the man tried to stop his motorcycle but there was not enough time and he hit the pickup which ejected him from his motorcycle. Authorities say the motorcyclist died at the scene.

Harris County authorities say the driver of the Silverado did not stop to help the motorcyclist.  However, sources say he was found a short time later and his blood alcohol content was over the legal limit.  Reportedly, the driver of the Silverado was arrested on intoxicated manslaughter charges.

Houston Driver Crashes into State Trooper After Drinking

On March 13, 2011, sources say a woman driving a pickup truck veered off the road and crashed into a DPS officer outside of Houston. Reportedly, DPS officer Justin Duck was issuing a citation during a routine traffic stop on Kickapoo Road near the Northwest Freeway when the collision occurred.

According to reports, Trooper John Sampa said, “the suspect was traveling at a high rate of speed, to the point that the trooper’s car back trunk was pushed all the way to the front seat. He actually had to be cut out of the vehicle.” Detectives say the woman was on the way home from the rodeo and admitted to drinking. Officials say she refused to take a breathalyzer at the scene so she was given a mandatory blood test.

Reportedly, Trooper Duck was taken to the hospital in critical condition and he was alert the following day. However, Trooper Duck does not remember being hit. Sources say he suffered a broken nose and needed stitches on his face.

Houston Area Driver Dies After Collision

On March 5, 2011, Harris County authorities say a 74-year-old was killed after a collision with an intoxicated driver. Reportedly, the intoxicated man was driving a Chevrolet Impala and stopped in the westbound center lane of the 17200 block of the East Freeway. Investigators say the 74-year-old was driving a Chevrolet Cavalier and crashed into the intoxicated man’s car. Officials say a Mercedes Benz then hit the Cavalier. Reportedly, the 74-year-old driver of the Cavalier died at the scene. Authorities say charges are being filed against the intoxicated driver.

Fatal Crash Involves Intoxicated Man With Child Passengers

On February 15, 2011, a 59 year-old woman died after her vehicle struck a white Chevy pickup on the 5500 block of Almeda Genoa in Houston. Investigators say the woman stopped at the intersection, but then proceeded to turn left and pull in front of the pickup. Houston police say the pickup was driven by an intoxicated man who had two child passengers. However, neither the driver of the pickup or his young passengers were injured. The driver of the pickup was reportedly charged with driving while intoxicated.
